Tattershall Lakes Review

Rock the night away in a rock star caravan at Lincoln’s Tattershall Lakes

Whoever said your holiday accommodation had to be standard? Living was invited to try out a caravan holiday with a difference. With décor inspired by British rock n roll, this stay was as iconic as the musicians of the era!

Caravans have had a serious makeover in recent years – they’ve become less tin can on wheels and more luxurious apartment in Soho. And it was this revelation that led our editor to suss out the launch of rockstar-inspired caravans for this Tattershall Lakes review!

Hot on the heels of glamping, which revolutionised the festival stay, caravans are firmly back in the game when it comes to hen party lodgings and stag do digs – and pretty much any overnight escape.

So, when we heard that a top UK holiday park operator had launched a ‘Rockstar’ accommodation, we were instantly excited, especially as #Rockstar is one of our favourite hashtags ever!

Of all the themes to bring to a caravan – one that screams richness, lavish design, and over-the-top expense is right up our street.

We set off with high hopes to find out just how rock star a caravan can be…

Every little detail screams British rock n roll

Out of this world

The caravans are based at Away Resorts at Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire and Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight. Location wise: so far so good – after all, the Isle of Wight is home to one of the biggest annual music festivals in the world…

Created by holiday home design experts, ABI Holiday Homes, the ‘Rockstar’ is fun and unique with décor that’s part country chic, part Brit-cool, and part punk. Forget about your standard caravan because these are so far removed from the traditional idea of one – this is an indulgent and extravagant place to stay, designed to be ‘British and bonkers’ and inspired by rock n roll.

Let’s start with the exterior – they are large space-like pods with a colourful and eccentric design to the outside. Quirky yet welcoming and a little futuristic at first. Each comes with its own manicured garden space, outside decking area and private hot tub. The caravans are spaced out generously too, so you don’t feel like you could watch next door’s TV if you looked through the window…

The hot tub is certainly a highlight of the accommodation – positioned perfectly outside the caravan so you can enjoy a private and relaxing dip whenever you want. These are exceptionally maintained with daily checks and great for parents to enjoy some quality time together when the kids are in bed!

Inside is where the fun really begins – it’s glam and completely excessive but absolutely brilliant. It’s just so cool. It’s 80s punk to a tee. It’s a bit like you’ve stumbled into Johnny Rotten’s private hideaway – there’s Union Jack motifs everywhere, from the splash back plate of the cooker to wall art, the coasters, place mats and sofa cushions.

The master bedroom has an ultra-comfortable king-sized bed with plush furnishings in deep mauve and purple, an en suite toilet room and a free-standing bath in the corner with its own TV so you can relax in a bubble bath with a glass of bubbles and enjoy your favourite programme.

Union Jack living

There is a large central living space with a huge corner sofa and a 55-inch flat screen TV and there are even rock concert DVDs to watch to help you get in the mood – if you need it!

The kitchen/diner, complete with zebra-print dining chairs and sturdy wooden table for four, is stocked with high-end accessories, a double oven and hob, microwave, small built-in dishwasher and feature retro style fridge. There’s no plastic plates and cutlery in sight, thankfully!

The main bathroom is luxurious with a huge shower area that has its own rock sign motif on the wall. There are towels and complimentary toiletries for everyone.

The second family room has built-in bespoke bunk beds and den and they each get their own TV so no fights over what to watch. The walls are covered in graffiti style design making it a great little hide away for children.

Everything is geared up to comfort, you have everything you need with plenty of mod cons and retro accessories to add to the iconic vibe.

Did I feel like Kate Moss? No, not really. More like an Oasis groupie who’d been invited back to the after party! But, these are fabulous, comfortable and exciting places to stay with the family – stylish surroundings and a super-punk feel, you’ll find it hard to leave the hot tub, let alone the caravan itself.

Rockstar Status? Definitely!

Prices start from £200 for a two-night ‘Rockstar’ holiday at Away resorts with private hot tub. The caravans sleep up to seven people. All bed linen and pillows are included.
