The Musical Theatre Stafford has a risqué production to open their season this summer – here’s everything you need to know
Musical Theatre Stafford will open its run at the Gatehouse Theatre this summer with the cult favourite film-turned-Broadway-musical, The Full Monty.
Based on the smash hit film, and a ten-time Tony Award nominee Broadway show, The Full Monty is a story filled with honest affection and engaging melodies. It also has one of the most highly anticipated closing numbers of any show.
For those unaware of the story, here’s a little synopsis.
While spying on their wives on a ‘Girls’ Night Out’, a group of unemployed Buffalo steelworkers see how much they enjoy watching the male strippers perform. Jealous, out of work, and feeling emasculated, the men come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. Only they’ll go one better and do The Full Monty.
As they prepare for the show, they find themselves extremely exposed both physically and emotionally. But they manage to conquer their fears, self-consciousness and prejudices to discover they’re stronger as a group. And the strength that they find in each other gives them the individual courage to do the unthinkable.
“We are having so much fun with The Full Monty,” says Dan Tillsley, who plays Jerry. “It’s a show full of heart and real life dilemmas and conflicts, just set in this comedy rich context. The music is fantastic and
Craig Armstrong, our director/choreographer, is putting his usual flare to the dance numbers. We are having a ball!”
