The Light up a life Campaign is Dougie mac’s annual campaign that has been running for 27 years where supporters can donate and dedicate a light on the Dougie Mac Christmas trees in memory of a loved one or loved ones. Each year over 4,000 people donate towards the Light up a Life campaign and join together to remember over 8,500 special people. (Their loved one does not need to have been cared for by the hospice, so everyone is invited to take part).
Each year a local business generously donates a Christmas tree (approx. 30ft) which is
displayed at the adult hospice. It is located to the left of the entrance to Car Park A at the adult hospice site and is adorned with giant silver baubles that we invite local businesses to sponsor in support of the Light up a Life campaign. The Christmas tree lights are switched on during the dedication of lights ceremony on the 1st December and remain lit until the twelfth night (6th January).
The second tree is located within the grounds of the children’s hospice. The tree (approx 14ft) will be situated to the left of the young adult building as you enter the car park. This tree will also be adorned with silver baubles and the lights will be switched on during the online ceremony to unify the two hospice sites throughout the Light up a Life campaign.
The campaign It starts at the end of September and donations to dedicate a light can be made until Christmas Eve.
There is no set amount because it’s always a voluntary donation, but we would encourage a minimum donation of £5 to help cover the cost of the Light up a Life dedication card and postage. The supporter can remember up to 5 people for this donation
The aim to raise £145,000 from the campaign in 2022. Donations can also be gift aided if the supporter is a UK tax payer.
Each Supporter receives a bespoke Light up a Life dedication card with their loved one’s name featuring a detachable decoration to personalise with a message and hang on their Christmas tree at home. They will receive a card for each loved one they are remembering and gold cord to hang the decoration on their tree at home
