Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme

Newcastle care specialist opens dementia café, with free coffee and cake to support community

September marks World Alzheimer’s Month and Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme is inviting local people to visit the Lower Street village and find out about the range of services available to enhance quality of life for people living with dementia.

Members of the community are encouraged to drop in any time this month for a chat over complimentary coffee and cake.*

People are also invited to take advantage of a friendly group session by attending B’s café, our monthly dementia café hosted in Samuel Bell’s Tea Room, a place where families and carers can come together over a lovely cup of tea or coffee and cake (next dates are Thursday 14 September and Thursday 12 October at 2pm).

Usually hosted by a Belong Admiral Nurse, in conjunction with the village Experience team, B’s Café offers carers the chance for support and respite whilst their loved ones enjoy an activity, such as music, art, exercise or dance.

As registered nurses with specialist expertise in dementia, Belong’s Admiral Nurses are employed in partnership with Dementia UK, and are highly skilled in working with people with dementia and supporting others to find successful strategies to promote wellbeing.

The village team will also signpost other services available at the dementia specialist care village, including home care, day care, or 24-hour care in one of its households – a homely, extended family sized setting with private en-suites.

General Manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, Peter Norman said: “The idea is that as needs change, a suitable service is always available, and we can support families as they navigate the options. We commonly find that carers are the family and friends of the person living with dementia, and our message to them is: you don’t have to go it alone.”

Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme is inviting the community to pop in any time during September for World Alzheimer’s Month for a chat over a lovely cup of tea or coffee and cake on us.* Everyone is also welcome to join an activity at B’s Café.*

B’s Café takes place monthly at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, Lower Street, ST5 2RS and the next sessions are on Thursday 14 September and Thursday 12 October at 2pm. To book a place, or speak to us about an informal consultation and village tour on an alternative date, contact 01782 986300 or email: enquiries@belong.org.uk
