The Mow Cop Killer Mile is set to be transformed with an exciting new look and feel thanks to a Staffordshire company’s generosity.
Middleport-based Chaffinch has announced a sponsorship deal to help make the event even bigger and better.
As part of the partnership deal there has been a comprehensive rebranding strategy, the launch of a new website as a central information hub, the creation of dedicated social media channels, and the production of promotional video content showcasing the race.
Taking place on Thursday, 8th May, Chaffinch will provide extensive support leading up to, and on the night of the event, ensuring that this year’s Killer Mile is more memorable and engaging than ever before.
Established in 1982, the Killer Mile is celebrating its 37th year, (some years it didn’t run), and has a capacity for 1,000 runners. Last year, 668 participants took part, and this year’s goal is to reach full capacity, welcoming even more runners.
The race begins on Drumber Lane and finishes on Top Station Road, featuring a challenging ascent of 570 feet, with steep sections reaching a 25% gradient. The event includes four distinct races: Junior Race, Fun Run (A and B) and the Elite Race.
Chaffinch Chief Executive Officer Alastair Machin said: “We are thrilled to support the Killer Mile. Living in Mow Cop with my family, I’ve seen the incredible impact this event has on the community. My daughter took part in the junior race last year, which inspired me to explore how our business could contribute.”
He continued: “The organisers are mainly volunteers who have put in a lot of effort over the years. We are looking forward to collaborating with them to improve the event’s success and give back to the community we value.”
Event organiser, Geoff Pettengell of Mow Cop Runners added: “The race is iconic and steeped in history. Over the years, we’ve seen some fantastic runners participate in an event that brings the community together. The other team of volunteers and I are very proud to have been involved in it but now feels like the right time to bring additional support to take this race into the future.
He added: “We are thrilled to have signed a sponsorship deal with Chaffinch. The team there is helping breathe new life into the event, and we are looking forward to working with them to build on our previous success.”
More exciting details will be announced soon on the prize money available, additional awards and how to register.
