The classic fairytale of Cinderella will be given an ice-cold twist this month as Little Seeds Music present a brand-new musical for families, Cinderella Ice Cream Seller, from Wednesday 23 to Thursday 24 April at the New Vic Theatre.
Stopping off in Staffordshire as part of a UK tour, Cinderella Ice Cream Seller puts a unique spin on the much-loved classic and offers a delightful blend of storytelling, music and theatrical magic for audiences both young and old.
Telling the story of how Cinderella, once a humble ice cream maker with not a penny to her name, built a thriving ice cream empire – the musical follows characters Talvi and Caldwell as they unravel the tale of Cinderella’s journey from rags to riches, while exploring their own hopes, dreams, and the magic of ice cream.
Suitable for children aged five and over and their families, this touring production combines the musicality of a West End show with the intimacy of traditional storytelling and is performed by a cast of two including Lauren Harthorpe (Coup Coup Club, Allegra, Leeds Conservatoire, Elvi Pipper; Twelfth Night, Antonio and Valentine, Leeds Conservatoire) and David Gibb (Three Bears, Jingle’s Magic Sleigh, WISH, Suddenly A Star, The Story Museum; JACK!, The Met, Bury; Hansel & Gretel Nottingham Playhouse).
On his inspiration behind the show, writer and composer David Gibb said: “I was really interested in how much of a role ice cream plays in our lives and how it’s so universally enjoyed by almost everyone. It’s there for us at every occasion, whether it’s an ice cream sundae for a birthday celebration, a 99 with a flake on holiday by the sea, or a great big tub of Ben & Jerry’s to ease a broken heart. I had so much fun exploring all of this through the story of Cinderella, adding lots of changes and unexpected twists and turns, but still retaining the best parts of the original tale. It’s also a story about being brave, learning to work together, and listening and learning from people who are different to you and I’m really proud of the message the show delivers.”
Cinderella Ice Cream Seller takes to the stage at the New Vic from Wednesday 23 to Thursday 24 April 2025. Tickets are on sale now priced at £12.00. For more information and to book call the Box Office on 01782 717962 or visit newvictheatre.org.uk.
