Burton upon Trent to shine brighter than ever with first Canvas of Light experience.

Burton upon Trent will light up the festive season like never before with the launch of Canvas of Light- Starlight by Luxmuralis, a brand-new immersive experience transforming two of the towns most iconic heritage buildings for three magical evenings. From 18 to 20 December, residents and visitors of all ages will be invited to explore spectacular light projections, by award winning light art collective, Luxmuralis in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council.

This free to attend experience will transform St Modwen’s Church and the historic Bass Water Tower with immersive projections, which will be brought together with a trail of light and colour through the recently enhanced Memorial Gardens linking the two landmarks. The installations invite visitors to experience Burton in a completely new way, celebrating the town’s rich heritage with a festive, contemporary spectacle.

Visitors can wander along the illuminated trail, take in the sights and enjoy a festive night market filled with seasonal treats, local stalls and live entertainment. Children will have the chance to meet Santa and his elves in Burton Library, adding a truly memorable moment for families.

Cllr Paul Walker, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: “Burton is undergoing so many exciting changes, and Canvas of Light is a brand-new way to celebrate the town this festive season. It’s the first time we’ve hosted an event like this, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to see our landmarks in a completely new light. The trail, projections, and festive activities come together to create something truly special for the community. These events form part of East Staffordshire Borough Council’s programme to centre culture and creativity in the heart of Burton upon Trent”.

Canvas of Light, running from 5pm to 8pm on 18,19 and 20 December is a ticket free event and part of Burton’s wider festive programme, which kicks off with the Christmas Lights Switch-On at Burton Market Place on 23 November, featuring music, a funfair and a fireworks display.
