Heritage Open Days Event – Self Guided Tour “The Shirley’s of Etruria”
11th September 2020 - 20th September 2020
With the Covid 19 restrictions the Etruria Industrial Museum will not open for Heritage Open Days this year but as it is the bicentenary of the commencement of bone boiling and calcining on the site of Jesse Shirley’s Bone and Flint Mill, which is at the heart of the museum, a leaflet has been produced for a self guided tour of Etruria. The Shirley’s were very well known in Etruria, perhaps only second to the Wedgwood’s’, and the 2 hour walk takes in many of the places associated with them including the mill, the Shirley drinking fountain in Etruria Park and Etruria Villa which they built and lived in for many years.
The leaflet can be downloaded free from www.etruriamuseum.org.uk during the period of the festival.
