Inside the Staffordshire wedding of Kayleigh and Stephen

Here’s the wedding journey of Staffordshire couple Kayleigh and Stephen – see the pictures and read their story below

Kayleigh and Stephen met in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Boxing Day in 2017 and tied the knot in a beautiful Staffordshire wedding one year later. Now they are gearing up for a new life together in America.

Kayleigh and Stephen were married Friday 27th December 2018 at The Threshing Barn at Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel They had 76 guests in total and say their wedding was personal, relaxed and entertaining
Stephen proposed to Kayleigh on 15th September 2018 in Iceland on a work trip. “He flew me over for a few days to explore the island,” says Kayleigh. “He proposed in the middle of nowhere in Eastern Iceland around midday. Later that day we travelled to the north part of Iceland, went to some geothermal hot pots, and surprisingly saw the Northern Lights!”

“My bridesmaids organised a surprise hen weekend in Bath in November," says Kayleigh. "We stayed in an amazing house, learnt how to make cocktails and sang our hearts out in a karaoke room." And for Stephen's stag do? "When I was back from America for a few days, I went for a surprise meal and drinks with my groomsmen and dad. It was good fun and I can remember more of my stag party than Kayleigh can remember of her hen party!"

They chose to have their civil ceremony and reception in the same place. “We both have family and friends living around the country, from Essex to Liverpool,” says Stephen, “so wanted a central location with accommodation on site and nearby."

Kayleigh's stunning gown was from Rococo Weddings Melbourne. “I had no idea what style I would want until I started trying on dresses," she says. "However, I was fairly sure I wanted something elegant, vintage and with lace. My dress was so perfect; it fit me like a glove and showed off my curves. I loved the neckline and how the light caught the subtle sparkles covering the whole dress. My veil, also from the shop, matched so well to the style with its embroidery and scalloped edging."

They created a romantic atmosphere with fairy lights and added lanterns along the aisle. They were all seated in pig sties for the wedding breakfast too for a quirky touch, with a long top table and smaller rectangle tables that had hessian runners and luggage tags for name labels.

Kayleigh and Stephen also got help from friends and family. One of Kayleigh’s bridesmaids made the cake and Stephen’s Aunt did the flowers.

In the evening they all moved into the large bar area with a live band playing until 1am and DJ sets inbetween.

Their top tip? “It can be done in only a few months, just prioritise what’s most important to you and what’s in your budget. Do what you can yourself but don’t hesitate to get help if needed!”

The band performed their first dance live. They chose When I found You by Jasmine Rae. When asked what life is like as a married couple...? "Every day we put our wedding rings on each other the same way we did on the wedding day and are still reminiscing about how perfect it all was. We are now getting ready to start our married life together over in America, so our adventures are only just beginning!"
