Community favourite returns, new and improved, just in time for festive season
Ye Olde Windmill pub has undergone a £180k transformation. Enhancing its countryside charm, the refurbishment will introduce considered touches to maintain and balance its rustic allure with modern comfort. Now officially reopened.
Located on the edge of Gentleshaw Common, a hotspot for walkers, mountain bikers, and horse riders, Ye Olde Windmill has been a staple of the local area for years, offering great hospitality as well as stunning views of rolling hills and countryside. Regulars and visitors to the area will now be able to enjoy a pub that’s even more inviting, with cosy corners and family-friendly outdoor spaces, including a new children’s play area. A personal favourite of the community, the double crown green will be beautifully maintained and improved, ensuring that locals and visitors can look forward to many peaceful afternoons of bowls. Alongside family events and weekly quizzes, the pub proudly supports the local bowling team, ensuring that it plays an important role in supporting its community.
Ye Olde Windmill has been well established as a Good Beer Guide listing for many years, and this refurbishment will allow the pub to increase its range and become a destination for ale, cider and craft beer. Along with classic favourites, all drinks will be available from a new and improved bar serving area. The food menu celebrates traditional fare, with a hearty Sunday Carvery including homemade, locally sourced vegan and gluten-free options as well as a children’s menu. There really is something for everyone.
Running Ye Olde Windmill for the past eight years, and turning the pub into a local favourite, Amy Woodhouse, General Manager comments, “We have something really special at Ye Olde Windmill. We have deep ties with our local community, and we can’t wait to welcome back our regulars as well as guests to the area to experience the thoughtful upgrades we’ve introduced.”
