New images give an idea of the challenges faced by Staffordshire highways teams dealing with damage from Storm Darragh over the weekend.
Scores of fallen trees had to be cleared from across roads ranging from country lanes to dual carriageways.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams dealt with 474 calls over the weekend, following on from Friday’s work dealing with storm damage in the Kidsgrove area.
Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Strategic Highways, said: “The crews worked tirelessly over the weekend, along with other organisations and, in some cases, the community dealing with scores of fallen trees, as well as some flooding incidents.
“The priority was to keep people safe and reopen roads as quickly as possible.
“Over the next few days we will be carrying out follow-up inspections and further work where needed.”
He added: “I have been driving today and there is still quite a bit of debris around and I would urge people to remain cautious and drive to the conditions.”
Highways crews received around a hundred calls alone from the Stone area in one 24-hour period, while teams operating from the Gailey depot had removed 80 trees blocking roads by early Sunday afternoon.
