Eight community groups from Newcastle and the Staffordshire Moorlands have received a special Unsung Hero award from the Chairman of Staffordshire County Council, Phil Hewitt.
The groups received the award for their invaluable contributions to their local communities.
Representatives of the groups attended a special celebration event at County Buildings in Stafford on Friday 31 January where they were presented with their awards. Guests were also joined by Sir Ian Dudson, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Staffordshire and the High Sheriff for Staffordshire.
Groups and individuals include:
- Biddulph Moor Evergreen Club
- Baldwins Gate and Whitmore Active Living Group
- Creative Cheadle
- Tean Youth Club
- Jude Powell – Bradwell Dingle
- Jeff Finney – Porthill Dingle
- Jeanette McGlynn – Porthill Litter Pickers
- Elaine Rice – Supports the Local Rainbows and Girl Guides, Air Cadets, RBL, Town Council and bearing at churches
Talking at the ceremony, County Councillor Phil Hewitt said: “There’s a huge amount of fantastic work being done by voluntary groups right across the county, which we’re extremely grateful for.
“It’s really important that we recognise these amazing contributions, which is why I’ve introduced the Unsung Hero Awards. Through the awards, we can show our appreciation to those individuals and groups and thank them for what they do and for the difference they make in their local communities.
“It was a huge privilege for me to present the awards on behalf of the county and I’d like to say a huge well done to the latest groups involved.”
Future awards ceremonies are planned to recognise organisations from across Staffordshire in 2025.
