Arthur Berry (1925–1994) – Seated Woman, 1981
Estimate: £1,500 – £3,000
This evocative portrait features a solitary, partially clothed female figure, her downward gaze and somber expression rendered in Berry’s unmistakable style. Signed ‘A Berry 81’ in the lower left, this piece was exhibited as Work No. 88 in the Arthur Berry Retrospective Exhibition held at Stoke-on-Trent City Museum and Art Gallery (17 September – 27 October 1984).
Moorcroft Peony Planters by Philip Gibson
Estimate: £500 – £1,000
This impressive pair of large planters, designed by Philip Gibson in the stunning Peony pattern, were specially created for the British Pottery Manufacturers Federation in 2000. Each piece bears a unique commemorative backstamp and comes mounted on custom-made wooden plinths- true collector’s items from an iconic name in British ceramics.
Mintons Gilded Platter Hand-Painted with Balmoral Castle by Arthur Holland
Estimate: £100 – £200
A piece rich in history and personal legacy, this platter is part of a larger collection consigned by the grandchildren of Arthur Holland. Born in Hanley in 1896, Holland began his artistic journey at Wedgwood at age 13 while studying at Burslem and Stoke Art Schools. After serving as a sergeant in the Royal Fusiliers during WWI, he returned to the ceramics industry, eventually earning the honour of painting the 1953 Coronation Vase presented to Queen Elizabeth II.
This platter, along with other works by Holland, has remained in the family for generations and comes with a rich provenance from his grandchildren- Catherine, Thomas and Mary- who grew up with him in Penkhull during his retirement.
18ct UK Hallmarked Gold Centre Seconds Chronograph Pocket Watch, £6,000 – £12,000
A true piece of Staffordshire railway history. This substantial 18ct gold pocket watch, complete with a double Albert chain, fob, and medal, was awarded to Mr. Rice, Assistant Manager of the North Staffordshire Railway Service, upon his retirement after 50 years of service on 22 October 1902. Fully hallmarked and preserved in outstanding condition, it’s a remarkable commemorative item that blends horology with heritage.
