BBC Daytime’s hugely successful spin-off series, The Repair Shop: On The Road is returning for its third series and is looking for items at the heart of communities across the UK.
Viewers of the first two series, produced by Ricochet, have followed Will Kirk, Dom Chinea and other Repair Shop experts helping to restore local landmarks and shared treasures that bring people together. Items have included a memorial honouring lives lost at sea in a Scottish fishing town and a century-old, record-breaking railway Pump Trolley, all reflecting local history, identity and shared memories.
Ricochet Executive Producer, Emma Walsh, said: “We’ve had the most incredible experiences bringing the magic of the barn out on the road. Helping to restore some incredible items, no fix is too challenging for our team of experts! We want to hear about more community items that are in need of the special Repair Shop touch and of course any personal items that have rich local context.”
The community items could be owned or connected to community centres, clubs or charities, local halls, churches, schools or youth groups for example, or intergenerational projects, sports teams, cultural groups, or volunteer-run initiatives, museums, heritage centres or local institutions.
Will Kirk said “One of the real joys of going out on the road is uncovering items that hold real meaning to a community, where a repair or restoration genuinely makes a difference to local people. Every fix is special but the phone box in Birmingham was a particularly memorable one – a life-saving restoration that repurposed an old telephone box, an important part of British history, into a vital defibrillator station. We want to hear what your community would like help with – get in touch, we’d love to come and visit you!”
Dom Chinea added: “Communities are the heart of the country and having a shared interest whether through sport, schools or cultural groups are critical to bringing people together. There’s no better feeling than knowing we can bring The Repair Shop magic to make a positive impact on the communities. We’d love to hear your stories.”
