The loose women and Benidorm star shares a few of her favourite things and tells us what’s making her happy right now
Sherrie Hewson has been around in showbiz for decades. We’ve watched her in Corrie, laughed at her in Spanish-set comedy Benidorm, and most recently welcomed her on stage at the Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent for the live version of the show.
So, when we were given the chance to get to know her a little better, we jumped at the chance!
What was the last book you read?
I re-read books all the time. I love that sense of comfort. The last one I re-read and that is always on my bed stand was The Time Travellers Wife.
And you boxset binge of choice?
I don’t really do boxsets, I don’t have that kind of head. I absolutely adore black and white films however, so if I wanted a dose of nostalgia I’d snuggle up on the couch with an episode of Downton Abbey or I’d pop a black and white film on.
Have you had any weird fan moments?
Most definitely when I was in Coronation Street. When I played Maureen, people had a sense that they wanted to look after me. When Reg left for Lowestoft, members of a fan club set up for her said “we are 30 strong. We are going to hire a bus, head to Lowestoft and find him”. Or “we are going punting. We have made provisions for you and will send a car. Don’t bring Maud”. It was never anything sexy like Sarah Lancashire got!
What’s your favourite thing to eat?
Well, right now I am having a halloumi and roasted tom & garlic sourdough sandwich. That’s my favourite at the moment as I don’t eat meat. Bruschetta with garlic butter became a favourite then and remains so today!
Do you have any pets?
Sadly no. Before I had my daughter, Keely, I was mother to a beautiful Weimaraner called Giaus. He loved and protected her from the second she came home. Later, I had a Westie called Charlie and after he left us I couldn’t cope with the pain and vowed not to have another pet.
What’s your favourite thing to do on your day off?
My grandchildren are the loves of my life, so if I am off, I can’t think of anything better than to spend time with Molly, 7, and Oliver, 11. I live in the Lancashire hills and I love to walk and take in the stunning scenery.
Do you have any top beauty tips?
Live your life. Wake up and smile. It makes your body and mind smile too.

What’s your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe?
Keeley runs a fabulous boutique and I have the most stunning cream jumper with a cold should festooned with drop like jewels at the shoulder. Whenever I wear it people ask where I get!
Are you a summer or winter kind of gal?
I hate being cold, so summer, definitely. I love looking out of a window and seeing beach and palms. Or at home, I look out at hills and horses. That’s a view that’s hard to beat on a sunny day!
Describe your paradise holiday…
I love a city break and New York would be my destination of choice. I love the excitement of the place, being in theatre land, the architecture from the period brownstones to Times Square. I love that the city feels truly alive 24/7. If I was with my grandchildren, it would be as simple as being by the sea and jumping over the waves.
