Home Care Team Hosts Coffee Morning with Staffordshire Police to Promote Community Safety and Dementia Awareness

On 25th October, the team at Bluebird Care East Staffs & South Derbyshire held a special coffee morning event, bringing together customers, carers, and Staffordshire Police to promote important safety and dementia awareness initiatives.

The event focused on helping customers stay safe at home, especially as Halloween approaches, with tips from Staffordshire Police on how to handle unexpected visitors, including “trick-or-treaters.” This advice was invaluable for many attendees who often feel uneasy about opening their doors to strangers.

Along with the safety discussions, the event included a Dementia Friends session. Attendees signed up to become Dementia Friends, part of a nationwide initiative to increase understanding and support for people living with dementia.

Bluebird Care customers, family members and police officers, all learned about the unique challenges faced by those with dementia. The insights gained helped everyone appreciate the significance of patience, clear communication, and compassion.

The highlight of the morning was Staffordshire Police’s enthusiastic participation; they too became Dementia Friends, showing their commitment to a deeper understanding of dementia-related challenges.

Vicki Jones, Registered Care Manager at Bluebird Care East Staffs & South Derbyshire, said:

“We’re delighted by the positive response from our customers and community. Partnering with Staffordshire Police to provide practical safety advice, especially around Halloween, is really helpful to our community. Events like this also spread awareness and support individuals living with dementia by creating a safer, more understanding community.”

Meanwhile, Barbara, a customer of Bluebird Care East Staffs & South Derbyshire said:

“I’ve enjoyed learning new facts about Dementia. It’s a worry for all of us and now I feel much more informed about the condition.”

Brenda, another customer of Bluebird Care East Staffs & South Derbyshire added:

“Becoming a Dementia Friend was absolutely brilliant. I’ve told all my friends about it. I think everyone should become a Dementia Friend and be aware of how people can struggle with everyday life.”
