A Luxurious Escape at The Tawny Hotel: My Hidden Valley Discovery

As a lifelong Staffordshire resident, I thought I’d seen all the county had to offer – but my recent stay at the Tawny Hotel in Consall Valley proved me wonderfully wrong. This extraordinary escape right on our doorstep seamlessly blends the natural beauty I love about our county with the luxury I never expected to find so close to home. My partner and I chose this spot for our anniversary weekend, and it turned out to be the perfect destination for our special celebration.

Our Room: Owls Nest – A Dog-Friendly Haven

I stayed in the Owls Nest room with my partner and our beloved Maltese, Tiny, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. As someone who’s always struggled to find truly luxury accommodation that welcomes dogs, I was thrilled to discover this gem. The room struck the perfect balance between rustic Staffordshire charm and five-star luxury – something I didn’t think was possible in our county. Every detail had been thoughtfully considered, and I was impressed by how genuinely welcomed our four-legged family member felt. It’s rare to find such high-end accommodation that doesn’t make you feel like you’re compromising on luxury for the sake of bringing your dog.

Dining at The Plumicorn Restaurant: A Culinary Revelation

I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting restaurant-quality dining in the Staffordshire countryside, but The Plumicorn Restaurant completely changed my perspective. The menu celebrates local Staffordshire produce in ways I’d never experienced before – innovative cuisine that felt both sophisticated and deeply connected to our local landscape. Each dish told a story of the Consall Valley that surrounds us, transforming what I expected to be a simple meal into a memorable culinary adventure. The service was impeccable, making it the ideal setting for celebrating our anniversary. The  chef marries  Seasonal produce and comes up with truly amazing combinations for example I tried the mushrooms  with Wilshire truffle and Black Garlic with Nasturtium followed by the Dunwood Farm Beef fillet, Short rib, Maitake and Bordelaise , with a side of Tenderstem  with Almonds, and I always love a sweet treat at the end of a meal   Tahitian vanilla , with Tawny  honey and Brown Butter

The Estate: Discovering Hidden History

I was fascinated to learn that the estate was originally developed by Mr. Podmore – a piece of local history I’d never encountered before. The variety of accommodation options impressed me, from intimate rooms to expansive suites, each uniquely designed. As someone who appreciates Staffordshire’s architectural heritage, I found the diversity of spaces remarkable, ensuring every guest could find their perfect sanctuary.

Exploring My Own County: A Natural Wonder

The hidden valley surrounding the hotel took my breath away. Despite living in Staffordshire my entire life, I’d never discovered this stunning corner of Consall Valley. Breathtaking landscapes unfolded in every direction, offering me an immersive natural experience that felt worlds away from my daily routine, yet was practically on my doorstep.  It just goes to show that you don’t have to travel a million miles to find an oasis of beauty. The estate’s carefully preserved grounds provided endless opportunities for exploration, with winding paths perfect for strolls with our dog, lush vegetation, and spectacular views that made me fall in love with my home county all over again.

The Follies: Architectural Treasures

One of the most enchanting discoveries during my stay was the collection of fantastic follies scattered throughout the grounds. As a Staffordshire local with an interest in our county’s history, these architectural curiosities absolutely delighted me. Each folly seemed to tell a story, inviting my partner and me to discover the rich history and creative spirit of the estate. They provided perfect conversation starters and photo opportunities throughout our romantic weekend.

Perfect for Our Special Anniversary

What truly impressed me about the Tawny Hotel was how it made our anniversary feel truly extraordinary. My partner and I have celebrated many milestones over the years, but this hidden gem in our own county delivered an experience that transformed our short break into something magical. The combination of luxury, natural beauty, dog-friendly policies, and exceptional dining created the perfect recipe for an unforgettable celebration – and I didn’t even have to leave Staffordshire to find it.
