Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre is set to be transformed this August with a celebration of creativity, sustainability and community, thanks to a vibrant programme from the team at Brilliant Bamboo CIC.
On Friday 8th August, the Pop Up Park on High Street will host a relaxed drop-in session where families and individuals can try their hand at building bamboo dens and imaginative structures. Led by artists Chloe Rickett and Francesca Wheeler, the activity runs from 11am to 3pm and is open to all. It’s a chance to get hands-on with natural materials and explore new ways to be creative in public spaces.
Later in the month, on Friday 29 August, the town will come alive with Bamboo-Castle – a day packed with live performance, interactive play and pop-up workshops. One of the main highlights is BAMBOO, a striking circus show by NoFit State Circus. With performances at 12pm and 3pm near Vue Cinema and Bygones, the show combines aerial performance, live music and bamboo structures to explore themes of balance, connection and strength.
Families can also enjoy Right to Play by Pif Paf Theatre, an immersive play experience inspired by every child’s right to play. Throughout the day, the Brilliant Bamboo team will be on hand to run workshops and demonstrations exploring the creative and sustainable possibilities of bamboo.

Their events bring such a fresh and hands-on experience to the High Street, it’s not every day you see circus performers, bamboo dens and interactive workshops right in the middle of Newcastle. It’s a great way to get families involved, celebrate creativity and show what’s possible in our public spaces.”
Both events are free to attend and are supported by Newcastle-under-Lyme BID and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
