Alice in Wonderland will come to life at the unveiling of a new library
Families will have the chance to meet characters from the famous book to mark the opening of the new Tunstall Library, on September 3.
Five characters, including the Mad Hatter, The Red Queen, the White Rabbit, and the Cheshire Cat will be on hand to have pictures with guests and wow them with acrobatic performances.
Local best-selling author Mel Sherratt will also be attending, as will local illustrator Kate Leake, who will provide a drop-in illustration workshop for children and families. There will also be a storyteller and face painter sessions.
The new library premises, which will be based in the recently refurbished Tunstall Town Hall, will also have a host of activities planned between 10am and 2pm, including bite-size tasters of popular events such as Lego Club and Singing Bears.
Families will have the opportunity to take part in the Tunstall Treasure Trail throughout the nearby Tunstall Market, with anyone who finds all the book characters receiving a special goodie bag in the library.
Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure, and public health said: “We can’t wait to welcome local children and families to the fantastic new location of Tunstall Library. The town hall is a beautiful building and the library is a wonderful addition to it.
“The library will be hosting a wide range of activities throughout the day plus we will have the amazing characters from Alice in Wonderland in attendance. It promises to be a fun-filled day for the entire family, younger and older to enjoy and a perfect way to end the school holidays.”
