Live well with dementia

As a not-for-profit organisation, Belong’s charitable objectives focus on providing high quality support and accommodation for older people, primarily through our vibrant community villages and bespoke home care service, which operates in the Newcastle-under-Lyme and surrounding areas including Trentham.

Incorporating the Belong Heritage Gallery, as a dementia friendly facility at the heart of the village, Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme is a care setting with a difference. It links the past and the present through people, their memories and a shared exploration of our heritage, providing a unique dimension to enrich the lives of older people living in Belong.

Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme has a daily programme of events and there are ample opportunities for relatives and members of the wider community to join in life at the village. From seasonal festivities to perennial favourites and varied outings to cosy film nights.

Amongst the opportunities is B’s memory café, hosted in Samuel Bell’s Tea Room, a place where families and carers can come together over a lovely cup of tea or coffee and cake.

Usually hosted by a Belong Admiral Nurse, in conjunction with the village Experience team, it offers carers the chance for support and respite whilst their loved ones enjoy an activity, such as music, art, or exercise.

As mental health nurses with specialist expertise in dementia, Belong’s Admiral Nurses are employed inn partnership with Dementia UK, and are highly skilled in working with people with dementia and supporting others to find success strategies to promote wellbeing.

The village team will also signpost other services available at the dementia specialist care village, including home care, day care, or 24-hour care in one of its households – a homely extended family-sized setting with private en-suites.

Josephine Mollison, General Manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme explains: “The idea is that as needs change, a suitable service is always available, and our message to family and friends of the person living with dementia is: you don’t have to go it alone.”

B’s Café takes place monthly at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, Lower Street ST5 2RS. To book a place or find out  more, contact the village direct on 01782 986300 or email:
