Leven Hotel Manchester – A Luxurious Urban Retreat

Situated in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant city centre on the corner of Conduit Street and the world-famous Canal Street, you could not get a more perfect location for the nightlife and shopping district in Manchester.

The building, originally a cotton warehouse, has been sympathetically transformed into the most gorgeous hotel containing high-end studio and one bedroom and Penthouse rooms that not only caters for your every need but provides high-end luxury for a night away or a short break in perfect surroundings for work or pleasure.

History

The area’s history is known in the 18th and 19th centuries as Cottonopolis is cross crossed with canals originally built to service the hundreds of cotton mills that were built to house the growing industry.  The rise of the cotton industry is historically important and is the origin as to how Manchester became the major city it is today. Following the closure of many businesses using the factories and warehouses in the city, the area became a wasteland of abandoned 19th-century buildings for more than 30 years.

With the evolution of the LGBT community throughout the mid 20th century, Canal Street itself came into its own during the 1990s. With the success of the TV show “Queer as folk” which focused on the nightlife, clubs’ bars and cabarets. The area enjoyed visits from people from all walks of life, curious to discover more about the colourful and fun-filled area.

Hotel Today

The Leven Hotel stands as a testament to sophisticated urban hospitality, with its crown jewel being the stunning penthouse suite. During my recent stay, I had the privilege of experiencing this exceptional accommodation firsthand, and it exceeded all expectations.

The Penthouse Experience

The moment the elevator doors open to the penthouse floor, you’re greeted by an atmosphere of refined luxury. The suite itself is a masterclass in contemporary design, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that frame Manchester’s dramatic skyline. The living space seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with comfortable functionality, boasting custom furniture and state-of-the-art amenities. With the mezzanine making use of the high ceilings, they are great for a longer stay as the bedroom and the luxury bathroom is upstairs. The bathrooms have beautiful free-standing baths, which is great to have a soak and relax after a day and night of shopping, dining and exploring the city. The toiletries are all a premium aromatherapy brand that smells divine. (they are available to purchase at reception), and a rainfall shower that could convince you to spend hours in its therapeutic embrace. For longer stays there is also a dishwasher and a washing machine.

What truly sets the penthouse apart is its private terrace – a rare urban oasis that offers breathtaking views of the city. Whether enjoying morning coffee or evening cocktails, this outdoor space adds an invaluable dimension to the luxury experience. If you want to spend a night in the huge TVs in the living area , plus a slight smaller TV’s in the bedroom give you the opportunity to catch a movie, cast your favourite TV shows through your own TV packages ,, which mean that if staying for a longer time, you will not miss you must see show.

The staff are extremely helpful and make sure that everyone of your needs is met and beyond  you can also have a pre-dinner cocktail to unwind before going out on the town.

Maya Restaurant – A Culinary Journey

The buildings crowning glory extends beyond accommodation to its resident restaurant, Maya. This establishment has rapidly established itself as one of Manchester’s premier dining destinations, and it’s easy to see why. The restaurant space itself is a study in sophisticated design, with warm lighting, plush seating, and an ambiance that manages to be both intimate and energetic.

The culinary experience at Maya is nothing short of luxury personified. Executive Chef and team have crafted a menu that celebrates contemporary cuisine while paying homage to classic techniques. Each dish emerges from the kitchen as a work of art, with presentations that delight the eye before satisfying the palate.

The menu is particularly noteworthy, offering a carefully orchestrated progression of flavours and textures. The wine list is equally impressive, with knowledgeable sommeliers ready to guide you through perfect pairings. Daniel, the head waiter, was more than happy to bring samples of recommended wine over to us to make sure that we had just the right pick to go with the succulent rib eye steak that was cooked to perfection, the  35 day aged ribeye steak, Café de Paris butter 45,  I tried the Walnut butter trofie pasta, parmesan, egg yolk, Which wa also flavoursome and delicious.  The bistro on the lower floor in which we ate was, great choice carefully crafted menu. We both opted for the Mackerel crudo, blood orange, verbena and oyster emulsion, which was a very reasonable £12 per head. My husband still had a tiny bit of room for more so he did opt for a desert of Bath soft cheese, currant loaf, Henderson’s onions, which was also delicious.

The atmosphere strikes an ideal balance between refinement and comfort. The service staff moves with practiced precision, anticipating needs before they arise while maintaining an approachable warmth that makes every guest feel like a regular. They also have a disco that r cranks up during the evening and adds to that feeling of having a great night out in elegant and beautiful surroundings,
