New homes are to be built on the former Seabridge Centre site in Seabridge, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, after a homebuilder acquired the plot.
Vistry Group, Britain’s biggest housebuilder, completed its purchase of the land in July and plans to build 53 homes on the 4.82-acre site under its Bovis Homes brand.
The development, which was given planning permission in April, will bring homes ranging from two to five-bedroom properties to the area.
There will be 25 properties for private sale, featuring a mix of three, four, and five-bedroom houses.
The other 28 homes will be provided as affordable housing for local people through shared ownership or low-cost rent.
Vistry North Central Midlands Operations Director, Alex Carlin said: “With planning permission secured and the land acquired, our team has been working hard to put everything in place for a high-quality development in Seabridge.
“We are looking forward to creating a development of stylish, energy-efficient homes featuring a range of sustainable features. With a mix of tenure options there are opportunities here for people to move into a modern new-build home, even if they are not able to purchase one outright.”
The development will be built on land off Roe Lane next to Seabridge Primary School. The disused brownfield site was previously used as a secondary school and then a community centre. The vacant buildings on the site have already been demolished.
Solar panels will be installed on all the homes and electric vehicle charging points will be provided on a selection of plots.
An area of public open space is planned with a combined footpath/cycleway and there will be more than 60 trees planted across the site.
