Could a New Walking Dead Spinoff Be Set For the UK?

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has already taken the iconic character across various locations in France and Spain, along with a brief stop-off in London in Season 3. The series is confirmed to be ending with its fourth season, but that may not be the end for the European expansion of the zombie franchise.

Scott Gimple has already teased that there could be more international spinoffs after Daryl Dixon concludes. With London already shown, the UK could be a prime location for the next offering. The Staffordshire Film Office is trying to attract more major productions, so this could represent an ideal opportunity.

Plans to Expand the Walking Dead Universe Further

The Walking Dead has become one of the most expansive television franchises of all time, with six television spinoffs from the flagship series already. Two of these are still ongoing, with Dead City and Daryl Dixon both consisting of three seasons to date.

Along with the television shows, there have been expansions in other areas of entertainment, including. The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, an arcade-style beat ‘em up. There are also various official games available in the slots online UK market, including The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Slot.

With this level of ongoing success, there are no indications that the franchise will end any time soon. In fact, Gimple and other executive producers are already thinking about the direction they could go in with new spinoffs.

Stephen Merchant’s Character Could Be Explored in a Prequel

Stephen Merchant appeared as Julian, a survivor living in London in the third season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. But – spoilers! – his character died during a storm at sea. Given his popularity with fans, however, is it possible he might be brought back?

It’s possible a spinoff might return to an earlier stage of The Walking Dead’s timeline and show how Julian survived all those years in the English capital. This wouldn’t be out of the question, as Fear the Walking Dead initially acted as a prequel to the main series as well.

Of course, a new spinoff wouldn’t have to go down this route, though. It could be set in the UK and explore other characters and locations, showing how different places in the country have been affected by the apocalypse.

Could Staffordshire Become a Walking Dead Filming Location?

If producers of the next Walking Dead spinoff decide on the UK but want to move away from London, Staffordshire could become an interesting option. Screen Staffordshire is aiming to attract more big budget productions to the county, and a huge franchise like The Walking Dead could be an excellent way to boost its profile.

The organisation has already supported 250 shoot days and has a database of more than 150 filming locations. On top of that, it has hosted location recces for productions working with major companies including Netflix and Amazon Studios.

Although there has been no confirmed UK-set spinoff of Thee Walking Dead, it would make a lot of sense. With London already being shown, fans may want to watch something that explores UK settings in greater detail – and Staffordshire might be just the place.
