Anita’s journey in ceramics began in 1987 at a local pottery in her Dorset village. She later moved to Poole Pottery, where she designed ranges for esteemed retailers like Liberty, John Lewis, Harrods, and Tiffany, working there from 1992 to 2002. In 2005, Anita relocated to Stoke-on-Trent, a city celebrated for its rich pottery heritage, where she crafted designs for Moorcroft, Black Ryden, and Cobridge Stoneware.
After facing redundancy in 2005, Anita took the courageous step of establishing her own business. Together with her son Peter, they transformed their studio into a vibrant space steeped in local history, located in a charming building on Short Street, Longton. This historic cobbled area is notably linked to Arnold Bennett’s Anna of the Five Towns TV production from the 1980s.
In this studio, Anita and Peter create what experts describe as “Antiques of the Future.” This boutique family business produces all artwork personally, offering customised designs, commissions, and a myriad of beautiful, unique ceramics. Since 2005, Anita and Peter have built their art pottery into an award-winning enterprise. Anita’s signature bright palette of colours brings each piece to life.
Commemorating 50 Years of Stoke-on-Trent
In 2024, as Stoke-on-Trent celebrates its 50th anniversary as a city, Anita Harris Pottery pays tribute to the region’s rich legacy. Among their special collections are commemorative pieces that reflect the vibrant spirit and history of this beloved pottery hub. The anniversary has inspired new designs that capture the essence of Stoke-on-Trent’s heritage while pushing creative boundaries.
Anita is also known for her exquisite glazes and layering techniques that enhance texture, colour, and lustre. Some pieces require up to five firings to achieve the stunning results seen in her work. Each item is unique, crafted and painted by hand, making even the smallest pieces labour-intensive and special.
Her animal sculptures, ranging from delightful frogs to majestic big cats and dynamic horse busts, are particularly sought after. A standout creation is Peter’s beautifully sculpted hare, each one slightly different and hand-painted by Anita, ensuring every piece is unique.
Anita has also produced limited-edition pieces, including a vase commemorating the King’s Coronation, showcasing her ability to merge artistry with significant cultural moments.
