Organisers of an iconic Staffordshire race have announced that registration is now open for runners to sign up.
The legendary Mow Cop Killer Mile takes place on Thursday, May 8th, and features a challenging ascent of 570 feet with steep sections reaching a 25% gradient.
This year marks the 37th year of the race and promises to be even bigger and better thanks to a sponsorship deal with Middleport-based document management company Chaffinch.
The event features multiple race categories, including junior races, club runners, and fun runners, ensuring everyone can take on the challenge at their own pace. Every runner will receive a commemorative medal. Cash prizes will go to the male and female record breakers (6:12 and 7:54) and the top three finishers in the Elite Race, along with awards for the first runner under 18. Trophies will also be given in various age categories, as well as to the first finishers in the Fun Runs and Junior Race. Watch this space for more details coming soon.
The entry fee is set at an affordable rate, ensuring everyone can participate in this historic race. Full details on pricing and registration can be found on the website.
Chaffinch Chief Executive Officer Alastair Machin said: “This iconic event, known for its challenging uphill route, is back and ready to welcome runners of all abilities. Last year, an incredible 668 people of all ages took part, and this year, we want to see even more. Places are limited with only 1000 spots available, so we urge people to register as soon as possible.”
Event organiser Geoff Pettengell of Mow Cup Runners added: “We’re thrilled that entries have opened for this year’s Killer Mile. For an event like this steeped in history, it’s always an incredible experience seeing runners take on the challenge and push themselves to the limit. The first race all those years ago saw 95 runners take part – this year, we’re hoping to fill every space. Whether you’re racing for a personal best through a running club or just for fun, this is an event you won’t want to miss!”
As part of the partnership deal with Chaffinch, there has been a comprehensive rebranding strategy, the launch of a new website as a central information hub, the creation of dedicated social media channels, and the production of promotional video content showcasing the race.
